Officers have confirmed the identity of a man who tragically lost his life in North Tyneside. The incident occurred just after 8.40am yesterday when a report was received via the ambulance service expressing concern for the welfare of a man outside a premises on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Shields.
Emergency services responded to the scene and discovered a man with serious injuries consistent with those caused by a bladed weapon. Despite the valiant efforts of medical staff and courageous members of the public who performed CPR until paramedics arrived, the man was pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as Andrew Darn, aged 35, from North Shields. Andrew’s next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specially trained officers during this difficult time.
The Major Incident Team immediately launched an investigation, resulting in the arrest of a 68-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
This evening, Alder Willis, 68, of Allanville, Camperdown, North Tyneside, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.
Police urge the public to recognise that this is an ongoing investigation and to refrain from speculation that could potentially impact any future trial.
