Part of the M20 motorway in Kent is expected to remain closed throughout the day following a “serious” crash involving a tanker and a car.
Emergency services, including police officers and paramedics, are currently attending the scene of the collision between Junction 10a for Ashford and Junction 11 for Hythe.
The coastbound carriageway has been closed due to the ongoing police-led incident, and authorities anticipate it will remain shut for an extended period.
Traffic on the London-bound carriageway was temporarily halted to allow the air ambulance to land but has since been allowed to proceed.
In a statement, the force’s roads unit addressed the situation, stating: “Patrols are currently dealing with a serious crash on the M20. The road is likely to be closed for some time.”
The incident, which occurred around 7:45 am, has prompted significant traffic disruptions in the area. Motorists are being diverted off the motorway along the A20, with reentry possible at Junction 11.
Authorities advise travelers to avoid the affected area and seek alternative routes where possible to minimize delays.
