A 26-year-old man from Streatham has been convicted of terrorism offences after being caught with extremist right-wing content during a Schedule 7 stop at Stansted Airport.

Stop at Stansted Uncovers Terror Plotting

On 13 August 2024, counter-terror police stopped Declan George-Candiani, 26, at Stansted Airport. His phone was seized and analysed, revealing extremist right-wing material. Following his arrest, officers searched his home and found an iPad containing documents that could aid terrorism, including guides on ‘lone wolf’ attacks.

Extremist Links and Dark Confessions

During police interviews, George-Candiani admitted accessing the material after becoming fascinated with a group promoting “traditional Satanism.” He claimed to have a “possessed mindset” and said he made a “pact with the devil” to become a “minion.” He described his obsession as “unhealthy” and uncontrollable.

“This case shows why Schedule 7 stop powers are vital in nabbing potential terrorists,” said Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command. “We found horrific right-wing terrorist content and dangerous guides on carrying out attacks.”

Justice at the Old Bailey

On 3 October at the Old Bailey, George-Candiani was convicted for two counts of collecting material likely useful for terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000. He was found not guilty on two other counts. Sentencing is set for 28 November.

Police Urge Public to Stay Vigilant

Commander Murphy reassured the public, especially London’s Jewish community, of increased police presence after the recent Manchester attack. He urged everyone to stay alert but not alarmed, encouraging people to report suspicious behaviour.
