Knife Rampage and Car Attack Outside Manchester Synagogue Leaves Four Injured
Four people hurt after a car was driven into a crowd during a stabbing spree at a synagogue on Judaism’s holiest day.
Chaos Erupts at Heaton Park Synagogue
Armed police raced to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester this morning after reports of a knife attack on a security guard.
Minutes later, a car ploughed into members of the public, injuring four people. The attacker, believed to be a man, was then shot by police firearms officers at 9:38 am. His condition remains unknown but is thought to be alive.
Major Terror Alert Declared
Greater Manchester Police activated PLATO—the national protocol for marauding terrorist attacks—at 9:37 am, signalling the gravity of the incident involving both stabbing and vehicular assault.
“Police were called at 9:31 am after a member of the public reported witnessing a car being driven towards people and a stabbing,” GMP said. “Shots were fired and paramedics are treating four injured victims with stab wounds and injuries from the vehicle.”
Residents are urged to avoid the Middleton Road area as emergency services continue their operation.
Emergency Services on High Alert
The North West Ambulance Service confirmed multiple resources have been sent to the scene. “Our priority is swift medical help for those affected,” they said.
