Public Spotlights ‘Lamping’ and Catapulting
A member of the public rang 999 at 9.47pm, claiming they saw poachers using “lamping” — blasting wildlife with bright lights to stun them — and firing catapults on private land. Police took the info seriously and acted immediately.
Suspects Caught Red-Handed
- Officers tracked down the suspects and their vehicle just 20 minutes after the call.
- They went in quietly, avoiding sirens or flashing lights to keep the suspects unaware.
- A search uncovered three catapults loaded with Ballball bearings, a large torch, two head torches, and six dead Pheasantspheasants.
Two young men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on the scene. Both have now been bailed as investigations continue.
