42 Children Reported Missing at West Wittering Beach in a Single Day
It was a tense and hectic day for lifeguards and coastguard teams at West Wittering Beach on Sunday, July 28, 2024, as 42 children were reported missing throughout the day. Thankfully, all the missing children were found safe and well, and reunited with their families.
The day saw multiple call-outs and collaborative efforts from various teams. At 11:37 AM, the Selsey Coastguard Team was paged alongside both Hayling Island lifeboats and the Littlehampton Coastguard Team to respond to a report of a missing six-year-old child. The child was located by lifeguards just as the coastguard teams arrived, and all assets were stood down to return to their stations.
Later in the afternoon, at 4:19 PM, Selsey and Littlehampton Coastguard Teams, along with both Hayling Lifeboats, were dispatched again following reports of three missing children at West Wittering Beach. A Brighton man has been sentenced after he brutally stamped on the head of a woman and sexually assaulted another in West Street.
Halcyon Platt, 21, of Ditchling Rise, Brighton, was sentenced on July 12, following incidents that occurred in the early morning of October 1, 2023. Platt was in a nightclub on West Street when he made unwanted advances towards a 20-year-old woman.
After being challenged on his behavior, Platt sexually assaulted the woman and grabbed her by the throat. The victim immediately called the police to report the crime. While she was on the phone, Platt became enraged with a second woman who attempted to assist a man nearby. He pushed the 23-year-old woman away, assaulted her, and threw her to the ground. Platt then callously stamped on her head multiple times, causing significant facial injuries.
