Man Jailed for Sexual Assault on Woman in Wheelchair at London Hospital

Man Jailed for Sexual Assault on Woman in Wheelchair at London Hospital – UKNIP

A man has been jailed after he sexually assaulted a woman in a wheelchair in a London hospital.

The female patient was being wheeled back to a ward at St Mary’s Hospital by a porter on February 6 when 35-year-old Mukhtar Jama approached her, a court heard.

He took her right hand and kissed it while asking if she was ok, before he moved closer and groped her breasts.

Police were called to the hospital, in Praed Street, Paddington, and Jama, of Pinkwell Lane, Hayes, was arrested and later pleaded guilty to sexual assault.

He appeared in the dock at Southwark Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday (March 5).

The court heard that Jama had four previous convictions for sexual assaults.

Judge Christopher Hehir said: “All of these previous incidents involved similar conduct, groping complete strangers in public places. One of the previous incidents also took place in a hospital.”

Rebecca Martin, representing Jama, said that in 2019 Jama suffered brain damage in a road traffic accident.

Three of the four sexual assaults committed by Jama took place after that accident.

Ms Martin said that as a result of the brain damage Jama has a lack of consequential thinking.

But Judge Hehir said that while the head injury had led to great changes in Jama’s life, there is evidence that he maintains self-control.

Judge Hehir said: “You knew what you were doing and you knew what you were doing was wrong.”

He sentenced Jama to one year in prison after concluding that an immediate custodial sentence was necessary due to the threat he poses to women.

Oska Bright Film Festival: Championing Disabled Filmmakers’ Voices

Oska Bright Film Festival: Championing Disabled Filmmakers’ Voices

Nestled in the vibrant city of Brighton, the Oska Bright Film Festival stands as a testament to the creative spirit of filmmakers with learning disabilities or autism. Since its inception back in 2004, the festival has emerged as the world’s leading platform for showcasing films made by or featuring individuals with these disabilities.
The festival was born out of a group of learning-disabled filmmakers’ desire to have their voices heard and their stories told. What started as a one-day event has blossomed into a biennial celebration that attracts thousands of attendees and submissions from across the globe.
This year’s edition, running from March 11-17, promises an even more exciting lineup. With over 110 films across more than 15 screenings, the festival kicks off with a launch night featuring live music and the heartwarming documentary “This Is Going To Be Big.” The awards night, a highlight of the event, will see nine awards distributed across 14 different strands of the festival.
The Oska Bright Film Festival is more than just a cinematic event; it’s a movement. With less than 5% of disabled people working in the UK film industry, the festival is a driving force for change, championing the talents and stories of an often underrepresented community in the arts.
As the festival continues to grow, so does its impact. It’s not just about the films; it’s about the message they carry and the barriers they break. The Oska Bright Film Festival is a beacon of inclusivity, shining a light on the boundless potential of all artists, regardless of disability.

McDonald’s Unveils Revamped Burger Menu Ahead of 50th Anniversary

McDonald’s Unveils Revamped Burger Menu Ahead of 50th Anniversary – UKNIP

McDonald’s has revealed it is changing the way it “cooks and prepares” some of its classic menu items ahead of its 50th anniversary later this year.

The beloved fan favourites Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese and its classic Cheeseburger variations including double and triple, will all be getting a taste change.

The fast-food chain has made small modifications to its beef burgers, enhancing all the elements “customers enjoy most”.

This includes placing onions on top of each patty while they are cooking on the grill for extra flavour and changing the sear of the beef patties.

The movement follows the success of the changes in both Australia and the US markets, meaning the restaurant’s new burger tweaks will shortly be implemented across the UK and Ireland to ensure “even juicier burgers, served hotter.”

The new processes also incorporate greater quality and flavour into the beef.

What changes are happening to McDonald’s burgers in the UK?

The full list of changes to McDonald’s burgers include:

Beef patties – A tighter sear on the grill, resulting in hotter and juicier beef patties for maximum flavour.

Grilled onions – New processes involve adding white onions to the grill on top of the patties as they cook, for added colour and a better charred flavour.

Lettuce – Fresh lettuce straight from the fridge for that extra snap, crunch, and clean taste.

Meltier cheese – Hotter beef patties guarantee that the cheese oozes over the sides, creating an even smoother texture.

New buns – A new buttery, brioche-style recipe for a soft and pillowy textured bun – freshly toasted to order for the perfect golden brown outer crunch.

McDonald’s reimagined classic beef burgers will be available in restaurants from mid-March.

Gareth Pearson, chief restaurant officer at McDonald’s UK&I said: “As we celebrate McDonald’s 50th anniversary in the UK, we are excited to introduce our enhanced classic beef burgers.

“We’re constantly innovating and improving our menu and we found that a collection of complementary small improvements to the iconic burgers make a significant difference to the flavour.

“Another big part of this transition has been around our restaurant teams and how we can support them in delivering the best possible customer experience.
