Brighton SEU Apprehends Suspects in Drug Bust

Following a patrol by Brighton’s Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU), two individuals were apprehended on drug-related charges. On February 21, SEU officers were tipped off about a suspicious Volvo cruising along Lewes Road.
They tracked the vehicle to an address in Richmond Heights, located in the city’s Hanover district, using unmarked cars. The vehicle’s driver, a 33-year-old Hove man, was taken into custody after officers discovered drugs and a sum of money inside the car. He faces charges related to the distribution of a class B substance, carrying an offensive weapon, and driving under the influence of drugs. Subsequent investigations led officers to his Hove residence, where they uncovered a substantial amount of cannabis.

SEU Inspector Ollie Pullen said: “Our officers were alerted to the suspicious vehicle which had been linked to drug dealing in the city.
“We work hard to deny criminals the use of the road network and disrupt the supply of drugs that have a major impact on our communities.
After searching the vehicle and the home address we found a large quantity of cannabis and other suspected class A drugs, and a large amount of cash worth thousands of pounds. These were all seized as part of the investigation.”

Brighton RNLI Rescues Dogs and Discovers Seal during Operation

Brighton RNLI lifeboat volunteer crew was paged at 9:52 AM on Sunday 03rd March 2024 to a report of two dogs in distress in the water near the King Alfred Leisure Centre. The situation took a curious twist when the crew expanded their search to include a possible swimmer, who was later identified as a seal, not a person in distress.
Upon receiving the alert, the team launched into operation to ensure the safety of the animals, which could potentially be at risk in the unpredictable sea conditions. The situation took an intriguing turn when the crew expanded their search to investigate a report from the public about a possible swimmer in distress in the same vicinity.
After a thorough search, the crew discovered that the reported swimmer was, in fact, a seal, adding a surprising twist to the day’s events. The seal appeared to be unharmed and was not in need of assistance, allowing the team to focus their efforts back on the canine conundrum.
In a fortunate turn of events, the two dogs were found safe and sound back on shore. It emerged that they had managed to hitch a ride with a paddle boarder who was in the area at the time.
