Appeal After Woman Seriously Injured in Gillingham Dog Attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman suffered serious hand injuries following a dog bite incident in Gillingham on Saturday, 31 May 2025.

Emergency services were called shortly before 2pm after the woman was bitten by what is believed to be a large black German Shepherd in Junction Road, near Napier Road. The woman, who had stopped during her walk, was approached by the dog and bitten without warning.

Victim Taken to Hospital

Paramedics attended the scene and the woman was taken to a West Sussex hospital. She was later discharged and is continuing her recovery at home. Police have not confirmed whether the dog’s owner was present at the time of the attack.

Arrest and Dog Seizure

Following initial enquiries, a 57-year-old man was arrested later that day on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. He has since been bailed pending further investigation. The dog involved was seized by officers.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Kent Police are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or firsthand accounts to assist in the ongoing investigation.

A police spokesperson said:

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident, or has any footage from the area at the time, to come forward. The victim sustained serious injuries, and we are working to establish the full circumstances.”
